Pakistan’s top military brass including the army’s Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) called on the country’s top judge Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandiyal to explain why army troops are not available for election duty on 14th May when elections are being held for the provincial assembly of Punjab under court orders. A three judges bench headed by Chief Justice had ordered for elections in Punjab province within 90 days by declaring it a constitutional obligation. The apex court rejected a plea by the govt and election authorities that the provincial elections be held in October when general elections across Pakistan are held after the expiry of the current terms of provincial and National Assemblies.
