Pakistan’s Chief Justice Umer Ata Bandiyal along with two fellow judges has almost reopened a decided case wherein the court had declared that elections to the dissolved Punjab assembly must be held on 14th May 2023. Today on Wednesday the three judges bench also confirmed media reports of some top military officials giving a secret briefing to the judges about security situation of the country to seek an extension in the election date. While showing determination to ensure implementation of their order the judges however issued notices to all political parties to consider developing a political consensus for an agreed election date in Punjab province where assemblies had been dissolved and elections could not be held till today. The ruling alliance argues that provincial elections be held in October this year when general elections across Pakistan are due.
