In a five judges almost consensus judgement the Supreme Court of Pakistan has declared that trial of civilians in military courts was unconstitutional and the relevant provisions of the military laws were therefore of no legal affect. The verdict came as numerous petitions of public interest invoking apex court’s extra-ordinary human rights jurisdiction called for halting trial of over a 100 civilian political workers of opposition Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf led by Imran Khan who were found involved in attacks on military installations on 09 May this year as a protest against arrest of their leader. #mjtv talks to one of the petitioners lawyers Advocate Salman Akram Raja about the verdict which is being seen as a landmark finding to protect rights of civilians.
