Islamabad High Court faces a dilemma while deciding appeals of Nawaz Sharif against his conviction in Al- Azizia case. The case involves an allegation of Nawaz Sharif failing to disclose “receivable salary” as income, in his tax statement, from his son’s company and the Iqama (a UAE work permit) for the same company which Nawaz Sharif possessed without disclosure. In 2017 the Supreme Court exercised extra-ordinary powers to remove Nawaz Sharif from office of prime minister declaring him to be a dishonest man without proper trial and recording of evidence. The same matter was also however examined during trial before the lower courts where apparently under the influence of supreme court’s appointed “monitoring judge” the trial court too accepted unattested documents showing “receivable salary” and Iqama in the name of Nawaz Sharif. Nawaz sharif later today told the court about these illegalities and the high court too seemed convinced that this could not have happened.
#MJtv talked to court reporter Saqib Bashir and asked him if he thought the high court will acquit Nawaz Sharif in a matter already decided by Supreme Court. Will the high court reject an evidence on the basis of which the Supreme Court disqualified a prime minister for life?
