The election commission of Pakistan is struggling to establish its constitutional power “to hold free and fair elections” in the country as it summoned top officials were summoned to explain defiance of the commission’s orders in this regard. The commission had ordered transfer of Islamabad police chief Akbar Nasir Khan and deputy commissioner Irfan Memon. But the caretaker government today presented intelligence reports to show why both officials were indispensable for the capital’s law and order.
