Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa led 13 judges full court is increasingly grilling election commission lawyer over its treatment of opposition Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf (PTI) during the 2024 controversial elections. The election commission had declared all PTI candidates as non-party independents. Commission acted after chief justice Qazi Faez Isa led Supreme Court bench upheld an election commission decision of denying PTI its election symbol as a punishment for not holding inter-party elections in a legally satisfactory manner. As a result of this PTI was also deprived of about 23 special women and minority seats quota in the national and provincial assemblies and issue now being examined by the full court. While chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and some of his fellow judges seemed inclined to giving PTI’s women seats to ruling coalition today’s proceedings witnessed aggressive questioning to election commission lawyer as to how and why PTI could be deprived of its status as a political party just because of its election symbol was withdrawn. Matiullah Jan #MJtv talks to senior court reporter Hasnaat Malik about each of the 13 judges full court in terms of their individual leaning as evident from their remarks on the issue of special seats.
