COURT PACKING? Pakistan’s top judge desperate to appoint over 40 judges 50 days before retirement?

Watch now – Video Duration: 00:28:30 (hh:mm:ss)

As the standoff between Pakistan’s parliament and Supreme Court continues the outgoing Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa plans to appoint over 40 judges in apex court and the four high courts. A judges appointing authority namely Judicial Commission of Pakistan, headed by the chief justice, has been called to meet on September 13 ahead of top judge’s retirement on 25 Oct 24. Many see the move as court packing attempt by the chief justice who is allegedly securing majority in Supreme Court to entertain possible petitions against a likely government move to amend the constitution that will extend the tenure of superior court judges including the chief justice.

(L-R) Asad Toor, Matiullah Jan #MJtv (Host) Adeel Sarfraz and Hasnat Malik discuss a potential disaster in the making wherein the office of chief justice may become disputed after the retirement date of the incumbent chief justice Qazi Faez Isa.
