A five judges bench headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa today upheld a parliament made amendments made in the country’s anti-graft law. Ironically, opposition’s jailed former prime minister Imran Khan had challenged these amendments saying the ruling party introduced these to end corruption cases against its own leaders. However the apex court verdict is also likely to benefit the jailed ex premier in a couple of corruption cases as the restored amendments in the law provide immunity from prosecution to government bodies including federal cabinet. Khan faces charges of corruption by way of his government’s approval of a secret deal with a now exiled property tycoon Malik Riaz to allegedly gain personal benefits.
