The government today used emergency legislation powers to proclaim a temporary law for changing supreme court’s practices and procedure giving back more powers to chief justice Qazi Faez Isa. By changing the Practise and Procedure Act the government has empowered Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa to nominate a judge on a 3 judges committee that decides case fixation and bench constitution. The Chief himself is the member of that committee and therefore he will now automatically carry a majority to fix cases before benches of his choice.
