The UK based illegal assets tracking private detective company Broadsheet on Tuesday withdrew its petition before the Supreme Court of Pakistan wherein it had demanded making public of a secret file supposedly containing details of alleged illegal assets of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. The said file known as Volume 10 was part of the 5 judges apex court bench record in the famous Panama case (as a result of which then prime minister Nawaz Sharif was co victors and removed from office) but it was never made public on the request of the then anti-graft body on the grounds that this could hamper its efforts for legal assistance in receiving information from abroad about the alleged assets of the ex prime minister. Broadsheet claimed that the government was concealing information because as per its agreement with the government of Pakistan it had to be paid a particular amount on any assets belonging to Nawaz Sharif traced abroad. After a UK based arbitration Pakistani govt has already paid US $ 28 million to the company on the basis of the same agreement which was declared by a judicial commission as illegal and badly drafted to favour the company. Ironically the judicial probe was led by a retired judge of the apex court Justice Azamat Saeed Shiekh who being part of a Supreme Court bench hearing the famous Panama case had declared Nawaz Sharif disqualified from office on charges of not declaring his assets abroad. Advocate Latif Khan Khosa representing the Company argued before the apex court for access to the confidential volume 10 but Supreme Court judges remarked that now that arbitration has concluded and Pakistan has already paid the calculated amount the record was no more relevant.

Advocate Latif Khosa preferred to withdraw the petition and afterwards spoke to the media about the case. During the hearing one of the judge Justice Athar Minallah remarked that the advocate should not claim to be representing the interest of the people of Pakistan as he was representing Broadsheet in the matter.
