Supreme Court takes up first ever “appeal” against its own judgement in nab amendment case

Five judges of the apex court led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa took up for hearing a first ever “appeal” against its own judgement by three different judges in a case wherein parliament made amendments in accountability law were challenged. A three judges bench headed by the outgoing Chief Justice Omer Ata Banidiyal had earlier declared as unconstitutional changes to anti-corruption law (the NAB law) made by the parliament on the grounds da that these violated fundamental human rights by way of favouring politicians in power. As a result of that many corruption cases against top politicians were revived before the trial courts. The apex court 5 judges bench today directed trial courts not to announce any final judgement in corruption case till next date of hearing which will be fixed after release of a detailed verdict in another case to resolve a question law also being raised in this matter. #MJtv analysis today’s proceedings and also talked to advocate Farooq H Naek, a former law minister, who also argued the case in appeal today.
