A three judges bench headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa on Friday out its stamp of approval on an agreement between government, president and election commission to hold elections on 08 Feb 2024. The agreement for the time being puts at rest the speculations and uncertainty about holding of general elections across Pakistan however the apex court avoided to resolve the basic question of law – who is constitutionally empowered to announce an election date, the election commission or the president. The chief justice also made unprecedented, controversial and intimidating remarks about media and journalists as he observed that from now on those journalists who expressed doubts about holding of the elections on 08 Feb will be liable to be proceeded against for violation of the constitution. #MJtv conducts a post-mortem of today’s court proceedings and questions the intervention of court in the matter without actually answering the real questions of law.
