Former chief justice Saqib Nisar’s ridiculous orders continue to haunt Supreme Court of Pakistan. A similar order passed in 2018 while declaring as illegal veteran journalist Ata Ul Haq Qasmi’s appointment as chairman PTV ordered recovery of 19 crore rupees (as possible loss caused by it) from the then information minister Pervez Rashid, secretary to prime minister Fawad Hassan Fawad, finance minister Ishaq Dar, and Ata Ul Haq Qasmi. The amount was calculated on the basis of a special audit wherein it was pointed out that Qasmi was paid fee for hosting a talk show whereas the same talk show airtime IF sold to private advertisement could bring in millions of rupees. The four persons penalised were to collectively pay the penalty of 19 crore rupees and they challenged the decision before Supreme Court in review jurisdiction which was accepted and they were acquitted of all the charges. #MJtv talks to Bartister Zafarullah Khan, the lawyer for Pervez Rashid after the court decision.
